Saint Paul

City of Saint Paul

Saint Paul comprises 56.2 square miles and has a population of 276,963 residents. The city is entirely built-up in the core of the seven-county metropolitan area and is surrounded by incorporated cities. The Mississippi River runs through the city, forming a border with Minneapolis to the west. Most of the city’s neighborhoods are a mix of single-family and 2-4 unit buildings, with concentrations of higher density in downtown, along transit corridors and along the river. The city has an extensive system of parks and trails, from neighborhood to regional in scale.

The City of Saint Paul used funds from an Active Community Planning grant to incorporate active-living principles into its 2008 comprehensive plan update.
