Laura Baum

Graduate Assistant, Design for Health (DFH)

Laura Baum's work for DFH focused on assisting in creating model ordinances and comprehensive-plan language, as well as assisting in the development of the Web site and its Resource Library. Baum joined us while pursuing a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Minnesota. She brings with her an interest in growth management, comprehensive planning, and public participation.

Prior to joining the Metropolitan Design Center, Baum worked for a county commissioner in Portland, Oregon, where, among other tasks, she assisted on land-use and property-rights issues. She also interned with 1000 Friends of Oregon, a land-use watchdog group, where she prepared a best-practices toolkit to assist communities facing growth pressure on the Oregon coast.

Baum holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Hubert H. Humphrey Institute, University of Minnesota; and B.A. in Urban Studies from Brown University.
